Hello, my pretties. It’s that time of year again . . . Welcome to the 13 Days of Halloween! Insert happy dance here. So, for those who are familiar with my blog, you know that I love Friday the 13th just about as much as I love Halloween. For me, Friday the 13th is like a bonus Halloween because my friends and I always do something fun when one rolls around. Now, you might be saying: “Yeah, yeah, that’s great, but why the feck didn’t you post something brilliant for Friday the 13th?! It’s Halloween month, for feck sake!!” Well, I’ll tell ya. It’s because the best bros and I knew that a Friday the 13th during Halloween month was the perfect time to have our annual Halloween party. WOOOOO!! And, really, it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Jen and I have been throwing Halloween parties together for 15 years. Shut the front door–right?! And–annnnnd–if that wasn’t enough to make you go “awww” (or eek, depending on your perspective–I guess), the best bros and I have been celebrating Friday the 13th for the past 9 years–I heart you, dudes!!! Anywho, to kick off this year’s 13 Days of Halloween, I’ll share photos from the party and some other fun shizz to help get you in a spooky-festive mood. Let’s get started.

Costumes on Parade
I have to say, everyone really went all out with their costumes this year. I absolutely loved that we had everything from classically creepy to beloved spooky characters. I want to say thanks to those who took pics of the festivities and let me share them . . .
Let’s Play a Game
From previous party posts, you know that we play the Murder game every year. This year, we added to the fun by playing the Lap game. If you click on the link, I’m tellin’ ya, it was the best I could do to find instructions and example questions. Pinterest and Google were surprisingly (and annoyingly) not helpful in my quest. A word of caution . . . if you come across a Pinterst pin for “Lap Stack” do not click on it. It leads to a “dfaq” site. Trust meh, total shit show! Anywho, THIS version was so much fun that we ended up playing it a few times. Those stacked high faces, tho!
How ’bout a Little Soul Food?
Every year we prepare a veritable feast of the macabre (or just plain icky looking). This year was no different. And with the help of a couple guest chefs, we had more yummy “eew” than ever.
Oreo Truffle Eyeballs
- 1 package original Oreo’s (36) cookies
- 1 block cream cheese (8 oz)
- White almond bark 1 pkg (1 lb or 20 oz)
- 1 pkg candy eyeballs (if these can’t be found you can use a chocolate chip, just place on truffle upside down)
- Red, blue and green oil based food coloring
- Crush Oreos in a ziplock bag with a roller or place in a food processor until finely crushed.
- Add cream cheese and mix well.
- Form balls with the Oreo and cream cheese mixture and place on wax paper.
- Next, melt your almond bark in a double boiler (or in the microwave) according to the directions on the package.
- Dip the Oreo balls in melted almond bark, and before they set up, or cool, place the candy eyeballs or chocolate chip on them (if you wait too long they won’t stick).
- Lastly, divide your leftover almond bark into 3 bowls, use your oil-based food coloring to die each bowl red (for blood), green and blue (for eye color).
- These can be set on a platter, in a bowl or on sticks. Go ahead and get creative with your display.
Puking Pumpkin Dip
Ingredients for Guacamole
- 8 ripe avocados
- 2 pkgs of powdered guacamole mix (your choice)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
- Juice from 1/2 a squeezed lime
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- Sea salt and pepper to taste
Place all ingredients in a blender and whip until smooth. Garnish with fresh lime and cilantro
Up North of the Border Dip (the red stuff)
- 2 cans of tomatoes and green chilies pressed and drained very well
- 8oz spicy jalapeño cream cheese
- 12 oz Top the tater
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Place ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Chill until served.

This bonus track is a nod to my cousin Kelley and her fiancé, Gabe. They traveled all the way from Des Moines to partake in the awesomeness that is Halloween. They came–they partied–they conquered! I’m thinkin’ they need to make this an annual shin-dig.
